The Baltimore-based Ann Street Trio is devoted to performing chamber music from the classical era to the 21st century. Comprised of several of Baltimore’s finest musicians, the Ann Street Trio believes in engaging their audience through creative programming and conversation, and strives to give them an up-close look at the creativity and excitement of chamber music. The Ann Street Trio reaches audiences through chamber music series in the region, university engagements, and private salon concerts. With years of diverse performance experience, each member brings a particular expertise to their interpretation. Erik Franklin is a member of the U.S. Army Field Band (Ft. Meade, MD), Katlyn DeGraw is the Associate Principal Cellist of the Maryland Symphony Orchestra, and Hui-Chuan Chen performs recitals nationally and internationally alongside teaching at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County.
For over 500 years, humanity has produced magnificent art music—works with the power to elevate the human spirit, unite kingdoms, and influence political thought. Listeners deserve to hear these works; and as stewards of music, it is our responsibility to curate the playlist of modern life and passionately deliver it to our audiences. In this spirit, we present masterworks of music unrestricted by time period, genre, or orchestration. Our repertoire consists of musical monuments, original and arranged, featuring composers of the past and of our time. Time-tested masterpieces from the great composers like Beethoven and Brahms are a core part of our programming, but we also program brilliant works by composers that history has overlooked, like Germaine Tailleferre and Robert Muczynski. We guide our audience to a place of greater appreciation for instrumental music by presenting works that deserve to be heard—sophisticated and accessible music that captures the ear and the imagination. We are convinced this model will grow chamber music audiences beyond their current confines, gaining new patrons for ourselves and venues alike.
